Electromagnetic Grinding Chucks
Magna-Lock USA electromagnetic chucks are found on a variety of grinding applications and machine brands. The HG series and HC series are popular on Mattison surface grinders, while the HR and HL series are found on many smaller grinders, such as Brown & Sharpe.
All of our electromagnetic chucks and controllers are able to be remanufactured and serviced by Obsidian Manufacturing Industries with true OEM parts.

HG series
The HG series features a grid style top plate and are most commonly used on medium and large grinders and are also recommended for milling and planing operations. These chucks have evenly distributed magnetic holding over the entire surface and have rectangular pole pieces that are properly sized to yield maximum holding for your application. All sizes are also available with grid-to-one edge, magnetic poles extended over front or back edge, and, grid-to-two edge, magnetic poles extended over both front and back edges. The HG series also has a grid-to-all edge option to maximize holding area on the top plate.
HC series
Rotary electromagnetic chucks are used on surface grinders, lathes, cylindrical grinders, and other machines. Standard rotary chucks are available
with the popular concentric ring top plate pattern.
Magna-Lock has designed many rotary chucks for lathe and boring applications, radial pole chucks for cylindrical grinders, and sectional chucks for automatic loading and unloading of workpieces We are prepared to design and build rotary chucks of any size and style. Our experience in rotary magnetic chucks includes successful installations up to 12 feet in diameter.
Collector rings and brush holder assemblies are included with all chucks. Collector rings on 30" and larger sizes are located in the center of the chuck allowing easy access Collector ring and brush holder assemblies for special and smaller chucks may be arranged to meet customer's machine specifications.
HL series
The Economag Chuck is one of the most popular chucks in the industry and features a fine pole pattern that runs longitudinally resulting in a full magnetic surface to all edges of the chuck. This chuck has the lowest height in the industry allowing more head room on your grinder for jigs and fixtures. These chucks are ideally suited for small and thin workpieces and for parallels and V-blocks.
HB series
Swiveling magnetic chucks, known as knife bars, are available in many sizes and styles The 5 x 10 and
6 x 18 models are provided with brackets only Larger models are supplied with brackets, protractor dial, and worm gear assembly with handwheel. (Ratchet handle optional ) Positive locking at desired angular setting is provided on all models. All Swiveling chucks are balanced for easy rotation through 360° .
