Yes. Magna-Lock chuck controls are designed to be universal replacements and will work with almost any brand of electromagnetic chuck (Walker, Kanetec, Braillon, etc.), provided the electrical specifications match.
To ensure compatibility, you must match two key specifications:
DC Output Voltage: Check your chuck's nameplate. Most standard electromagnetic chucks operate on 115 VDC or 230 VDC. The new controller must output the exact same DC voltage that your chuck requires.
Wattage Rating: Check the wattage (Watts) listed on your chuck. Your new controller must have a wattage capacity equal to or greater than the chuck's rating.
Example: If your chuck draws 150 Watts, you can safely use a 300-Watt or 500-Watt controller. You cannot use a 100-Watt controller.
Why switch to a Magna-Lock Control? Many older controllers from other brands are now obsolete and unrepairable, such as Electro-Matic and MagnaFlux International. Upgrading to a modern Magna-Lock control gives you reliable solid-state electronics, variable holding power, and automated demagnetization cycles to keep your existing chuck running like new.
These features give you significantly more control over your machining process and protect your workpiece.
1. Variable Power (Holding Control): Instead of just "On" or "Off," variable power allows you to adjust the magnetic holding force from 0% to 100%.
Straightening Warped Parts: You can use low power to lightly hold a warped plate without flattening it completely against the chuck. After skimming the top flat, you flip it, turn the power up to 100%, and grind the other side parallel. This prevents the part from "springing back" to its warped shape after you release it.
Delicate Work: Reduce the holding force for thin or fragile parts to prevent distortion.
2. Demagnetization Cycle (Demag): When you turn a standard magnet off, some "residual magnetism" often remains in the workpiece, making it stick to the chuck.
Easy Removal: A demag cycle sends reversing pulses of electricity through the chuck, neutralizing the magnetic field. This allows the part to lift off effortlessly without prying, which protects both the part and the chuck surface from scratches.
Clean Parts: It ensures the part doesn't act like a magnet itself, attracting metal chips and swarf after it leaves the machine.
Seamless CNC integration is a standard feature on our FluxMaster V series controllers (specifically the SCC and CC models). You do not need to purchase a special "automation upgrade."
How it works:
Input (CNC to Controller): You can wire your CNC machine’s PLC or M-Code relays directly to the remote interface terminals on the controller. This allows your CNC program to automatically trigger the "Mag" (Hold) and "Demag" (Release) cycles without operator intervention.
Output (Controller to CNC): For safety, these controllers provide a standard "Machine Safety Interlock" signal. This confirms to the CNC that the chuck is fully magnetized. If power is lost or the magnet is turned off, this signal opens, triggering the CNC to "Feed Hold" or stop the spindle immediately to prevent accidents.
Typical Setup:
Models: Look for the FluxMaster V SCC or CC Series.
M-Codes: You will typically assign one M-Code for "Chuck ON" and another for "Chuck DEMAG."
Voltage: The interface is designed to accept standard logic signals (please refer to your specific model's manual for the wiring diagram).
